Campus Books Rental and Operation Smile

Alright, so I know a lot of you guys are currently in college and know that the cost of books is down right insane.  This was the one thing that I stressed about all the time was how I was going to pay for books on top of everything else.  Well there is another option out there that I had no idea even existed and that is to rent books.  Here are some of the perks of renting text books from http://www.campusbookrentals.com/:

  • Free Shipping Both Ways
  • 30 day Risk Free Returns
  • Live Customer Support
  • A HUGE selection
  • Very flexible rental periods
  • And the best for last you can save 40-90% off the cost of buying the book.
All of these are great perks and really could save you a ton of money down the road but even better in my opinion is something extra this company does and that is helping the community.  They have teamed up with an organization called Operation Smile to help children all over the world. Donations fund the surgeries, the organization, and all the things they do such as: (fromhttp://www.operationsmile.org/about_us/how-your-support-helps.html)

• For a little as $240, you can help provide a cleft lip or cleft palate surgery. This surgery can change a child’s life forever and can take as few as 45 minutes.

• Contributions in excess of surgical costs are invested into our sustainability programs, which empower our partner countries to treat more children on their own.

• Operation Smile has more than 5,000 credentialed medical volunteers ready to donate their time and talent. Your gifts help send them to countries where desperate children are waiting to be healed.

• Our annual Physicians’ Training Program (PTP) brings doctors and nurses from around the world to the United States for advanced training in their specialized fields.

CampusBookRentals has partnered with Operation Smile and are donating over 1,000 life saving cleft lip surgeries this year to help children in need. I love to see a company that is giving back and really helping out our whole world and the people in it who need our help.  Let’s be honest, without these surgeries these children will not be given the same chances and we all want for our kids or family or even friends.  Please consider using this company if you are out there looking for options for textbook rental and saving some money.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Our Wednesday Selections this week are….

The Scottish Prisoner: A Lord John Novel by Diana Gabaldon: Book Cover The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon

Release Date: November 29, 2011

Synopsis:

London, 1760. For Jamie Fraser, paroled prisoner-of-war in the remote Lake District, life could be worse: He’s not cutting sugar cane in the West Indies, and he’s close enough to the son he cannot claim as his own. But Jamie Fraser’s quiet existence is coming apart at the seams, interrupted first by dreams of his lost wife, then by the appearance of Tobias Quinn, an erstwhile comrade from the Rising.

Like many of the Jacobites who aren’t dead or in prison, Quinn still lives and breathes for the Cause. His latest plan involves an ancient relic that will rally the Irish. Jamie is having none of it—he’s sworn off politics, fighting, and war. Until Lord John Grey shows up with a summons that will take him away from everything he loves—again.

Lord John Grey—aristocrat, soldier, and occasional spy—finds himself in possession of a packet of explosive documents that exposes a damning case of corruption against a British officer. But they also hint at a more insidious danger. Time is of the essence as the investigation leads to Ireland, with a baffling message left in “Erse,” the tongue favored by Scottish Highlanders. Lord John, who oversaw Jacobite prisoners when he was governor of Ardsmiur prison, thinks Jamie may be able to translate—but will he agree to do it?

Soon Lord John and Jamie are unwilling companions on the road to Ireland, a country whose dark castles hold dreadful secrets, and whose bogs hide the bones of the dead. A captivating return to the world Diana Gabaldon created in her Outlander and Lord John series, The Scottish Prisoner is another masterpiece of epic history, wicked deceit, and scores that can only be settled in blood.

Includes a preview of the new novel in the Outlander series

Page 11

We have a few minutes, so we stand there looking around.  I watch the yearbook photographer, a junior in a Gates High sweatshirt, as she circulates.  A group of girls walking toward us all stop and put their arms around each other.  For the second they are posing, they look really happy.  Then the moment’s over and they just look bored.

That is my teaser for this week.  What are you going to teaser me with?
