Synopsis

Ninety-five days, and then I’ll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It’s hard to be patient. It’s hard not to be afraid while I’m still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn’t touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t.
Lauren Oliver astonished readers with her stunning debut, Before I Fall. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly called it “raw, emotional, and, at times, beautiful. An end as brave as it is heartbreaking.” Her much-awaited second novel fulfills her promise as an exceptionally talented and versatile writer.

My Thoughts

This was another books that I had heard a lot about and was not sure how I was going to feel about it.  Sure is an appropriate time of the year to be reading this book being about love and all.  I enjoyed this book and it was a very interesting concept that love is a disease and one can be cured of it by having a procedure done.  I love the relationship between Hana and Lena in the beginning of the books and how it transforms as Lena breaks all the rules and falls in love.  Alex is a very interested person, he is marked as though he is cured but really isn’t and he changes Lena, sometimes for the better and some times not.  This is another books where the government is controlling everything.  It worries me that this is where we think our society is going.  Overall, a really good books with an interesting twist at the end.  It is a book that you don’t want to put down at time just because the story keeps you guess as what will happen next and who is the strong brave girl in the story.

My Rating

4 of 5 stars

I’m happier than I can ever remember being, and when I tell Hana I can never in a million years replay her for covering for me, she just crooks her mouth into a smiles and says, “You’ve already repaid me.”  I’m not sure what she means by that, but I’m glad to have her back on my side.
