Dream Movie Cast – Daughters of Night: Possession with Giveaway

Today, I am welcoming Ashley Torbeck to my blog.  This is a very special day since not only is a new author but an old co-worker of mine.  It is awesome to see what she has accomplished!  Congrats and best of luck Ashley!

Dream Movie Cast – Daughters of Night: Possession

A lot of people will ask, “If a movie were made about your life, who would be the actor/actress to play the role of you?” If you’ve ever had to answer that question with anything other than “I dunno,” then you know it’s not easy to come up with an actor or actress so like yourself that you’d feel comfortable casting them as you.

Well, if you think that’s hard, try picking ten different actors to play the role of ten different pieces of your imagination. Especially when those pieces of your imagination are the characters you’ve come up with for a book. When you’ve created people out of nothing but your own insanity, trying to pick people who would play those roles is tough. The funny thing is, I had picked my dream cast a few months ago so I figured it would be a breeze to fix a couple of casting mistakes. Wrong. I kept four of the ten actors I had originally cast, and had to sift through hundreds of thousands of actors to find just the right ones. I did it, though, and I found the actors and actresses that are simply perfect for the roles.

I’m proud to present my dream cast of the ten most important characters in Daughters of Night: Possession!

  • Carmen Hartford: Hannah Marks (The Amazing Spiderman)
  • Gaviyn Hartford:  Asher Book (Fame)
  • Damien Hartford: Nolan Gerard Funk (The House at the End of the Street)
  • Abby Wheeler: Sammi Hanratty (A Christmas Carol)
  • Jackson Shears: Chase Ellison (Tooth Fairy)
  • Connor Manning:  David Henrie (How I Met Your Mother)
  • Zariah Parnevic: Indiana Evans (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening)
  • Zachary Parnevic: Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries)
  • Aliena McDonovan: Irena Hoffman (Moonlight Sonata)
  • Kaiya Volvakov: Sofia Vassilieva (My Sister’s Keeper)

I want to take a quick moment to thank the readers and fans, because you’re the most important part of being a writer. Also, a huge thank you to Lisa for having me here today, and for all the support. It’s been a true pleasure, and I wish each of you have all the love and insanity your minds can handle!

About the Author:

An avid reader and sarcasm specialist, Ashley’s quirky and bubbly personality stems from the vast amount of information she crammed into her head as a child. No genre was off limits, but she developed a fondness for Stephen King books early on. Of course, growing up in Eastern Kentucky, life moved a little slower, so books became her closest friends.

Fast forward a few years, and the vast insanity that surrounded Ashley became her life. In January 2009, she married the only person on Earth as insane as herself, and they now reside in Louisville, Kentucky, patiently awaiting the zombie apocalypse while she taps away at the laptop with a plethora of stories to keep you entertained.

Soldiers

Soldiers have played a big part in my life. I fell deeply in love with one when I was about four. He was a very handsome Coldstream on guard at Buckingham Palace and in his beautiful red uniform and his bearskin, I thought he was the most wonderful thing I had ever seen. He was unfortunately eclipsed later in the day by a member of the Household Cavalry, the horse was the decider.

Soldiers play a major role in “Jabin and the Space Pirates”, they are the good guys and since I stopped falling for the uniform, I have developed a deep respect for those who serve.

I was worried about writing  military action, I’m a woman and I’ve not served in any of the forces, but I am not only married to a military historian, I have also over the years, as a result of his work, met and spoken to many, many men who have been or who are, soldiers.

They have taught me a great deal. I know those who have seen real fighting do not talk about it. They will tell you all the funny things that happened to them, usually with a dry, gallows humour that can be unnerving for the unwary.  Yet under this cover, there is something much deeper, the shared comradeship, the fear of letting your mates down and, by extension the regiment.

There is courage, never spoken of, and pride in a job well done and a deep sense of duty.

When I came to write my soldiers, I drew on everything they have taught me and everything I have managed to glean from my reading of military history. I know enough to know I would have made a rotten general.

I tried to reflect the best of what I have learnt and I hope I have succeeded. Not for my sake or my pride, but for theirs.

Shape-shifters: a sub-genre

There are a lot of paranormal books out and I admit that I’ve read a lot of them. I like to read contemporary stories but paranormal or fantasy books appeal even more to me. From the sheer amount of books dealing with paranormal topics I take it that I’m not alone…

Now, m/m romance is a sub-genre anyway, so why did I chose to write a story that’s a niche in a niche? To be honest, that question only came up when I started reading some other blogs about m/m books.

Like I’ve mentioned above, I’ve always had a thing for paranormal books, and especially for stories in which the humans get to shift into an animal form. It fascinates me to no end! Do these shape-shifters have special communities? Do they always know they can shift or does it come as a surprise? How do they deal with their special abilities? How much of the typically associated animal behavior shows in the human’s personality? I could go on forever!

In A Purrfect Match Jim Sanders is a large, gray house-cat. Tony, Andrew’s son, confesses a lot of his secrets and worries to him, something he wouldn’t have done if Jim had been in his human form. Even Andrew talks freely to Jim as “Mr. Frosty”, which helps to push their relationship forward. Jim, Andrew and Tony bond on several levels, uniting them to a family.

Would they have become a family without Jim sometimes appearing on Andrew’s porch as “Mr. Frosty”? Nope, I don’t think so. The dynamic would have been very different. Jim’s shape-shifter abilities also allowed for some funny and warm-hearted moments. I really loved to write this story and hope readers will enjoy reading it.

Book Description:

When a bad day at work culminates in losing out on a promotion, Jim Sanders shifts into his animal form to let off steam. Then his bad day turns into a bad night—while prowling his Atlantic City neighborhood as a large gray house cat, he’s caught in a torrential downpour. What little luck he has washes down the gutter when his new boss, Andrew Wright, catches him taking shelter on his porch, brings him inside, and starts calling him Mr. Frosty.

As a feline, Jim becomes the inadvertent confessor for his boss’s lonely son, Tony, a victim of schoolyard bullying. As a human, he feels drawn to Andrew, a man he wanted to resent. Finding love was never part of Jim’s plan for the future—not with his bizarre secret—yet suddenly he finds himself navigating that minefield anyway. But not everything is easy, especially for an interracial gay couple dealing with prejudice in the workplace, at Tony’s school, and even within their own families.
