Armchair BEA Introduction

Well, kick-off day is finally here!  I hope those of you in NYC are having a blast.  Meanwhile, I will be here hanging out with Armchair BEA again this year.  Someday, I will finally make it to BEA!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Hi, Everyone!  Thanks for coming by!  I have been blogging for about 3 1/2 years.  Not been so good as of late, but I hope to find my grove again soon.  I have a ton of books to review for you guys, I just have to find the time and motivation.

Where in the world are you blogging from? Tell a random fact or something special about your current location. Feel free to share pictures.

I am blogging from Michigan, about a hour north of Detroit.  Hmmm,  a random fact or something special.  How about it is a beautiful state so much more than just Detroit, which is unique and beautiful in its own way.

Have you previously participated in Armchair BEA? What brought you back for another year? If you have not previously participated, what drew you to the event?

Yep, I have the last two years.  I have always wanted to go to BEA but just have not made it so this gives me the chance to do something fun the week of and get to know some new bloggers.  It has always been fun and just a good time.

If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?

I would want to have dinner with J.R.R Tolkien. Why?  I want to pick his brain.  There are so many questions I have for him not just about his books but about his process and language development.

What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

This may seem silly but I would love to visit Nora Robert’s Inn BoonsBoro.  I have loved her writing and would love to see it in real life.

If you are participating this week, I have you have a blast!  Check out some new blogs and find some great friends!

Armchair BEA day 4

Today’s topic is Ask The Experts. In your post, ask the visitors to your blog for blogging advice. What did you always want to know about blogging but were afraid to ask? Now is the time!

My questions is short and simple but I am hoping to get some great answers.  I have a twitter account but really have no idea how to use it or use it well.  What tips do you guys have?  Everyone says I must have it and it is great but I just feel lost.

Today at Armchair BEA: Beyond Your Blog

Has blogging opened up opportunities for you beyond getting free, advance copies of new books? Has it helped you get offers to write or review elsewhere (maybe even for pay)? Have you gotten invites to special events or places you might not have been to otherwise? Today, we’d like you to talk about those opportunities in you own posts, and later this morning, we’ll have a guest post from one of our own Armchair BEA team members, about her freelancing experiences.
At first, I was not going to do this one because I didn’t really know what I was going to write about even though it was right in front of my face every day. 🙂  Isn’t it silly how we forget about things so easily!  I don’t use any affiliate programs right now however I have looked into Amazon and a local book store , Schuler’s Books.  So I really don’t have a whole lot to say about that but I know that people make some money that way.
But where blogging got me was a link into promotions.  I was luckily enough to catch a blog post from Roxanne Rhodes who runs Bewtiching Book Tours who was looking for a paid assistant to help her with the business.  As it happens, we live about a hour from each other so she selected me as her assistant and I have been working with her for the last 9 months.  I have been able to learn a lot from her with even more in the future.  Promotions is a lot of work, but it is fun and I am really enjoying this new look at the book world.  It definitively has opened my eyes to some things that I was not aware of before.  If you are looking to get more author’s on your blog, please be sure to spot by and check it out.  And authors if you are looking for a new way to get yourself out there come by and check out our author page.

I am not sure what else to say except, I am very grateful for this opportunity that I have been given.
What is your story?
