FOUR LEGGED HEROES

 

 

Most romantic suspense stories feature a law enforcer in the cast of characters. Mine usually also highlight a military veteran.

 

In law enforcement as well as in the military, the Belgian Malinois is the Cadillac of service dogs. Rambo in  my work in progress—TOO SEXY FOR HIS STETSON—came to life after I visited a woman who breeds Belgian Malinois in the Capitan Mountains of NM. 

 

In a pickup truck loaded with canines eager to strut their stuff, I spent an entire day roaming around the small town of Capitan and the rolling lands that surround Ruidoso. The owner of Ruidoso Malinois and one of her hunky trainers, who thought the hero in my book should look like him, (not a bad idea) worked that day with a real life sheriff from west Texas. While bonding with his dog, the uber-cool law enforcer put the K-9 through her paces—sniffing out drugs and following the scent of would-be convicts over craggy land that was once Billy the Kid’s stomping grounds.
