Please help us welcome Author Rachael Anderson today with her newest book, The Reluctant Bachelorette. We will start with a quick interview and then on to my thoughts about this book. I loved it so much that I posted it on my personal Facebook and my MIL bought it and read it the very next day along with Rachael’s other books. That has to say something! Don’t miss the giveaway!
* Can you tell us something interesting about yourself that we can’t learn on the internet (can be anything)?
Honestly, I think I’m the most uninteresting person alive in the world today, which is probably why I enjoy writing so much. I get to live a much more interesting life vicariously through my characters. Seriously, when I go out to eat at a restaurant I love, I always order something I’ve had before that I know I will like. My husband, on the other hand, is more of a risk-taker and will readily try something new every time. I love that. Why? Because then I can sample his, and if I like it any better, I have a new staple for future visits. Really, everyone like me should marry someone like him.
* What does a typical writing day look like for you?
I’m not sure I could ever classify any of my days as “writing days.” (If only I could!) My days are filled with kids, PTA, church callings, housework (not that my house could ever be classified as clean), and lots and lots of interruptions. I do try to sneak in some writing time here and there, but mostly it has to happen at night after my kids go to bed–when I’m exhausted and tend to write incoherent sentences. If only you knew how many drafts it takes me to produce a decent book, you’d want to give me a hug. And I’d take it.
* Do you have any traditions when you start or finish a book?
When I start? Hmmmm . . . . I wouldn’t call it a tradition since I’ve only recently discovered that outlining is the smarter route to take. But I’m now making it a tradition. Does that count? As for when I’m done, other than shout hallelujah and make my husband take me out to dinner, I just smile a lot. BUT, if I didn’t worry about wasting good paper and ink, I’d print out the manuscript, throw it in the fire pit in my backyard, and torch the thing. Yes, I love my books that much when I’m all done.
* What inspired you to be a writer or who?
Books. I used to be a voracious reader when I had more time. Romances, of course were my favorite. But it became harder and harder to find the kind of romances I liked (clean, uplifting, super fun), that I got sick of looking and started writing. I’ve been doing it off and on ever since.
* What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
As long as it’s a good book, pretty much everything. Romances, of course, but I also love historicals, fantasies, mysteries, paranormals, etc. If it sucks me in, I’ll read.
* Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Do it because you love it and not because you expect to make lots of money. Otherwise you’ll probably be disappointed.
My Thoughts about The Reluctant Bachelorette
The Reluctant Bachelorette grabbed my attention from page one and never let it go. It was good clean fun with a ton of romance and conflicts though out. I was able to connect with Taycee right away, her wit and personality had me laughing out loud through different sections of the book. I appreciated her personality and dedication to her town. Basically, Taycee’s hometown is struggling and her best friend comes up with the idea of hosting their own bachelorette show, where the male contestants are responsible for their own costs and the public will vote online for who moves on and who does. Little does Traycee know that she is the woman of honor, something that she really does not want to do but feels that she has to in order to help save the town. What makes it even worse is when her old crush is back in town and a contestant. Traycee does not want him on the show and gets rid of him before realizing that she may still have strong feelings for him. This puts the whole show in jeopardy.
I really enjoyed that the story did not unfold the way that I thought it was going to, there were surprises along the way. I also enjoyed the interaction between Traycee and her brother as well as Traycee and her best friend. Not to mention the crazy men who end up on the show and how she feels about them. There was a lot of great chemistry throughout the book and not just romantic chemistry. I am ready for more from these characters. It was one of my favorite romance reads in a long time.
The Reluctant Bachelorette by Rachael Anderson
Unknowingly cast as the bachelorette for her town’s charity event, Taycee Emerson wants out. Especially when she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it’s up to the viewers–not her–to decide which bachelors stay or go.
Coerced into participating, Taycee does what any self-preserving girl would do. She launches a subtle attack on Luke’s good name with the hope of getting him voted off the show. Unfortunately, Luke’s an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, and when he discovers what she’s up to, it means revenge.
But when their pranks go south, will they screw up any chance they have at a future together, or will they be able to forgive and forget and prove that love really does conquer all?
