Armchair BEA Day 3: Networking

Today is the day that we discuss networking.  Many of us bloggers network online.  Afterall, Armchair BEA is all about networking online, particularly with other bloggers.  However, how can you get more involved offline and in real life?  Have you ever wondered how some bloggers have established those connections with local bookstores or libraries or even beyond?

As a pretty introverted person, putting myself out there online has been easier than doing so in person however blogging has helped me get over some of that.  I think that working with World Book Night was one that that really helped me.  Since I needed to pick my books up from the local library, it gave me to opportunity to actually meet those who run my local library.  In doing so, we have been able to come up with some really good ideas to get the teens in our community more into books and hopefully entourage some to share their book opinions with others.  That was really exciting.

Also, since starting my blog I have gone to more book signings and found an amazing bookstore about a hour and half from my home, Schuler’s Books, that has the most amazing book signings.  I have gotten the opportunity to work  with their PR person, Whitney, and get to know the readers who attend the signing that are similar to my likes.  It makes for a lot more fun to sit and chat with these people before the signing starts.

Beyond this, I have a great group of girls that love to talk about books so we get to sit down about once a month and just chat!

What about you?

  1. Wow, sounds like you’ve begun making a great little community! I definitely need to get out and look for local bookstores with which I can connect!

  2. I’m not very good at networking in real life. Online I think I’m pretty good at it but in person is hard.

  3. I’m looking forward to the day World Book Night starts working with bookstores/publishers/readers here in Malaysia. It’s great that you’re helping get more teens to read books. 🙂

  4. I love Schuler’s. I plan to attend a local author event at the one in Grand Rapids later this month.

  5. Good for you for going out and meeting bookish people!

  6. Which book did you get for World Book Night? I was so excited to get Enders Game by Orson Scott Card – I had hoped to network more with my books, but the kids I was handing it out to pretty much just came, picked up the book and left. I did get to meet with some local people from colleges and libraries and see what they were doing, so that was good!
