Big Changes

So I have been having some issues with Blogger and was watching a lot of by blog friends (mostly my Skype Sisters) switching to Worldpress so I made the move this evening, that is with the help of Kindle Fever and My Shelf Confessions.  Without them, I would never have figured it out.  www.lisasworldofbooks.com should be automatically forwarding to www.lisasworldofbooks.net.  Please let me know if you have any problems.  All feeds should forwarded so there should be no problems.  Let me know what you think of the new look.

  1. This showed up on my blogs I’m following. did you have to do anything special to stay on people’s followed list? I’ve been thinking about changing over also. For me one of the issues is the formatting – I waste a lot of time deleting extra spaces between sentences andn pictures in both compose and html only to STILL end up with more empty space than necessary. It’s frustrating.

One of the other issues is the two separate instances where I couldn’t even sign into my own blog to post, or edit…one time lasted almost a week, and the other time was recently – about two days of not being able to access.

Those would be my main issues though. I wonder how easy it is to retain your followers and if wordpress has any strange idiosyncrasies. Like, can you post a picture and still have text along the side of it, not only starting at the lower end.

Good luck with this – and if I ever decide to go for it, I’ll be in touch for pointers…(i’m not very computer friendly)

    • Hey Mardel!

As the one helping Lisa over, I know the answer to all questions above and thought I’d take the time to answer them for you! (I would have sent an e-mail, but couldn’t find how to contact you.)

There is special things you have to do in order to keep the followers and for them to continue to see your feed, but it is very simple and doesn’t take long at all.

See, I moved over because of Blogger issues myself, for a very similar reason actually, and it is one of the best things I have ever done. In the past 1,5 weeks, I’ve helped 5 friends moving as well (including Lisa) and it’s a very fast process. If not counting the actual customizing of your site, you can have it moved within 30 minutes!

Like I said, keeping your followers is extremely easy once knowing what to do. As is moving the feed and redirecting your Blogger URL to your new WordPress one.

The thing is that we aren’t talking about WordPress.com, which many people think. Since it’s their free option you are limited in about everything, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

However, me and those friends I’ve helped, have our own domain hosts. This one we have has a wonderful option of clicking for and automatic WordPress.org installation that’s done within 5 minutes! The only thing you have to pay is the domain host though and for the features you get, it is definitely worth it.

You can post a picture center, left and right. With option left and right, the text goes along the side of it, so no worries. (An example can be seen in this post with the text on the side of pictures to both left and right. | An example post from a friend with full text and one picture without enter separation.)

I have created a Moving Guide (http://rebgeo.net/about/moving-from-blogger-to-wordpress/) for how to proceed, for those wanting information and to try themselves. I’m also happy to help people who wants to sit down in a chat and get personal directions.

I’ve done this myself and know how scary it is! But after 6 moves total, I know how to do it. Any issues occurring, I’ve also fixed easily!

Please feel free to contact me for questions or help! I definitely don’t mind helping out with my experience!

  3. Excellent article and easy to understand explanation. How do I go about getting permission to post part of the article in my upcoming news letter? Giving proper credit to you the author and link to the site would not be a problem.

  4. Saved, I love your blog! 🙂

  5. Bless you for trying to describe the terminlogy for the newbies!
