Confessions of an Angry GirlConfessions of an Angry Girl (Harlequin Teen)by Louise Rozett

  • Synopsis:

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…

    1. I’m livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I’m allowed to be irate, don’t you?

    2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

    3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and “seeing red” means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don’t know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

    (Sorry. That was rude.)

Teaser from 1% in Kindle Edition

“Jamie.  You gonna eat that? Jame. That Bagel. You gonna eat it? ‘Cause I’m really hungry, man.  My mom threw me out before I could eat my cereal.  And she didn’t give me a dime.”

Jamie slides the half bagel dripping with butter over to Angelo without looking up from drawing on the back of his notebook.  Angelo is silent for thirty seconds, and then he’s on the make again, looking for someone else’s leftovers.  The PA system screeches with feedback, and the din gets louds as everyone tries to talk over it.

“Good Morning, Union High.  Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.”  The brightly colored riot-proof seats welded to the cafeteria tables left over from the 1970s creak as period-one study hall drags itself to its feet to say the words that we haven’t thought about and don’t understand – or can’t make ourselves say.  Jamie stays seated, his pencil slowly tracking the lines of his drawing.

“Are you telling me your girlfriend would refuse a nostrings-attached gift?”

“I’m certain she would if I had a girlfriend.  I happen not to like women who are fixated on money, because as a government worker I’ll never make the Forbes list of the wealthiest people in America.”

Punching the Start Engine button, Jacob signaled and then smoothly maneuvered away from the curb.  Reaching for the sunglasses on the console, he placed them on the bridge of his nose as he followed the signs for the airport exit.

“You didn’t answer my question, Jacob, “Ana said when he headed north.

    “What’s that?”

“Why did you take my phone and credit cards?”

“The plan is for you to disappear.”

He played the radio as loud as he could on the way back to the farm to keep himself from thinking too much about Lucy, about the things they’d said and the things they hadn’t said.  He switched off the eighties station when they started playing a New Kinds on the Block song.  It reminded him of the decision he’d made back then to form his own boy band because he knew Lucy was enamored of them.  He was going to be the lead singer. (So what if he couldn’t care a tune? A lot of the singers didn’t sound much better.)  He would make albums and go on tour with his group and then Lucy would wish she’d never stopped being friends with him.

That’s my teaser this week!  I hope you enjoy!  what are you going to tease me with today?
