Release Day Blitz: Fighting Gravity by Cherie Reich

A warm welcome to Cherie Reich who is here to celebrate the release of  Fighting Gravity!  Thanks for stopping by and sharing part of your day with us!

Way Out in Outer Space

I never intended to write about aliens.

True, I’ve enjoyed watching Star Trek, Firefly, and Stargate. I love science fiction romance books, such as Aubrie Dionne’s New Dawn series, Beth Revis’ Across the Universe series, and Nina Croft’s A Blood Hunter series, but I feel more comfortable in fantasy realms than amongst the stars.

But I had this character named Linia. She was different (blue skin and cute alien antennae different) and lived on the planet Persea. Bit by bit, she told me her story, and my writing universe expanded in a big way. I had to write about her, an alien. Her tale shot me higher than the moon into unknown galaxies filled with so many different aliens that I also had to write about.

I’ve taken a lot of liberties with aliens and space in my Gravity trilogy (Defying Gravity, Fighting Gravity, and Pull of Gravity) and pulled from Greek mythology and fantasy to create these alien worlds of Persea, Medusa, Aresia, and Cupidis. Part of the series takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth. The people (humans and aliens) battle in space, travel through wormholes, and fall in love.

Writers sometimes have to open our minds to new ideas, and I’m glad I took the leap into outer space.

Thank you for hosting me during my blog tour! Don’t forget that Defying Gravity is free on Amazon from May 1-4.

Fighting Gravity

BOOK TWO
by Cherie Reich

Forthcoming May 1, 2012

Book Description:

Forced into executing Aresia’s people, Phoebus escapes the Aresian Guard by flying his spaceship through a wormhole.

The only single woman of marrying age, Marissa flees her prospects of becoming Elder McGee’s third wife for a chance at freedom upon the New Atlantic Ocean.

When Phoebus’s spacecraft crashes upon an asteroid-ravaged Earth, he is captured by a rogue Earthling youth and thrown into a cellar. Marissa stumbles upon the spacecraft, but it explodes before she can find any sign of the alien. When she awakens, she discovers the alien’s whereabouts and vows to help him. They plot his escape when they learn Phoebus’s Aresians have landed and are searching for him. Phoebus and Marissa must battle against their despair and their peoples in their quest for freedom and love. And through it all, an Earthling and an Aresian will find it easier to fight gravity than their love for each other.

Defying Gravity

by Cherie Reich

Book Description:

Homesick upon the SS Perseid, Linia, a young linguist, thinks she signed up for a mission of peace, but her crew members have another plan: attack the planet Medusa.

Bored with his dying planet, Alezandros, a space cruiser pilot, joins the Medusan Army in his quest for adventure.

When the SS Perseid clashes with the Medusans’ space cruisers, Alezandros and Linia’s lives intertwine. Sucked through a wormhole, they crash upon a post-apocalyptic Earth and are captured by cannibals. In adjacent cells, Alezandros and Linia cast their differences aside for a common bond: escape. But when romantic feelings emerge between them, they might do the unthinkable because for a Medusan and a Persean to fall in love, it would defy gravity.

CROP Walk Contest

It is not very often that I post something personal around here but this is a cause and something that my family is doing that I would like to share with all of you.  This coming weekend, May 6th, we will be walking in our local CROP Walk.  Now you might ask what is a CROP Walk, well in story it is a walk that raises money to stop hunger worldwide.  What I think makes this walk and organization so different from others is it fights hunger right here in the United States as well as world wide.  25% of the money raised stays right here supporting the poorest of us.  While there are much bigger needs in other parts of the world, there are needs right outside out back door.  I like that this organization recognized and does something about this.  Here are some facts about hunger:

HUNGER: JUST THE FACTS

Food security occurs when people have consistent access – physically and economically – to sufficient safe and
nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life. For too many people, food security is a dream – and food
insecurity is their reality.

Worldwide:

925 million people do not have enough to eat –that’s nearly three times the population of the U.S.
98 percent of the world’s hungry live in developing countries.
Malnutrition leads to nearly one third of all childhood deaths before age 5.
More than 60 percent of the world’s hungry are women.
Hunger kills more people annually than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
One in seven people will go to bed hungry tonight.

One in four children in developing countries is underweight.

In the United States:

50.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households.
17.2 million children in our country don’t get enough healthy food to eat.
Households with children experience almost double the food insecurity rate of childless households.
5.6 million households relied on a food pantry one or more times in 2009.
1 in 8 Americans currently participate in SNAP (formerly the Food Stamp program)

To me these are some very scary facts.  I hope that you will consider making a donation to our walk and our goal to stop hunger world wide.  I am even going to make it worth your while with a little contest.  If you make a donation to our walk, you will be entered to win a signed hardcover copy of  For A Few More Demons by Kim Harrison.

For a Few Demons More (Rachel Morgan Series #5)

To make a donation, please follow this link.  Once you have made your donation, come back here and enter in the rafflecopter below.  There will be bonus entries once your completed making a donation.  Thank you for your support and I know together we can stop hunger.
