The Magic in Relics
Thank you so very much for having me on today, Lisa. As a long-time fantasy reader, writing in the fantasy genre was a no-brainer for me. I adore contemporary fantasy, such as those written by J.K Rowling, Tim Powers and Charlaine Harris. Dean Koontz has some contemporary fantasy/paranormal elements in some of his books that I always liked.
Because I’m fascinated by the idea of abilities and magic existing in our world, that’s what I incorporated into “The Thulukan Chronicles.” Relics is only the beginning of the series, but I loved the idea of making magic real and bringing it back. And not just for a select few to see, but for the entire planet to know about.
Unicorns, elves, fairies and the rest of the magical characters were a must. Letting Earth see them on international television seemed like a fun way to introduce them. And I have to have plausible reasons for my magic to exist. So, hopefully that comes through a little in Relics.
I took liberties with some of the magical creatures, but I did try to incorporate something of the myth or legend that we accept as “true”. For instance, fairies are tiny with wings. However, the fairies in “The Thulukan Chronicles” are also predators and respected warriors.
Creating the magic is one of my favorite parts of writing this series. Figuring out how it all fits together and what can and cannot work is loads of fun. As a pantser, I don’t keep a lot of notes, but I do have notes for the different worlds, which races come from each and a bit about each one.
I hope you enjoy reading about the magic as much as I did writing about it. J
Lisa, thanks again for letting me stop by!

Number of pages: Approx 293

When the creatures of myth and magic return to Earth, they’re nothing like your mother’s fairy tales.
Most of Thulu and La Fi’s clients are dead. Which is perfect since their detective agency caters to the supernatural. So, a job finding relics for an ancient daemon should be simple.
The daemon needs the relics to keep a dangerous portal closed. His enemy, Gabriel, wants the relics to open the portal and give his people access to a new feeding ground – Earth.
Stunning humanity with their existence, portals to other worlds begin to open and the creatures of magic return to Earth.
When Gabriel threatens their family, Thulu and La Fi’s search becomes personal. They’ll need powerful allies in the race to find the relics before Gabriel does. But maybe that’s what grateful dead, magical allies and daemonic clients are for.
