Synopsis:

After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon’s Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father’s wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she’s not thrilled…even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist’s assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn’t the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn’t the only thing that needs a little TLC….

My Thoughts:

Somebody to Love was an unexpected fun and enjoyable read.  At first, I was not sure that I was going to be able to connect with the main character, Parker Welles.  Parker lives in a mansion and has written an amazingly popular children’s book series in which all of the proceeds are donated to charity.  While at the same time she is raising her son on her own and seems that she might be down to earth.  I was struggling to figure out Parker when her father loses everything she owns.  Parker ends up with little more than her few personal belongings and the little amount of cash she has in her name.  Gone is her trust fund and the way of life she and her son are used too. The one thing that she had is the house a family member had left to her, but upon arriving at it she find it to be little more than a shack.  With the help of her father’s wing man, James Cahill, a man that has driven her crazy for years, she sets out to make the place livable or at least sellable.   Parker takes on her first real job, as a florist assistant, and set out to find what the new normal is in her life while her son is hundred of miles away with his father.

I really enjoyed the relationship that blossom with James and Parker without either one of them being fully aware that it was happening.  This small town does wonders for both of them and the relationships are outstanding.  I felt that this was a well balanced story that had just the right amount of romance and challenges.  It was unique and brought a smile to my face.  The setting was amazing and leave to each of these main characters to face a fear and share with each other.  The plot line was well developed and held strong throughout.

If you are looking for a relaxing fun read, be sure to check out Somebody to Love.

My Rating:

4 Penguins – This was a good read – fun and relaxing.

  • Yay I’m glad that there was the right mix of romance and plot. Sometimes romance books become all about the romance and there is little to no other plot points.

I think it must be a crime that I have yet to read this author’s books. Everyone always raves about her great romance novels. I shall have to read her work very soon.

    Thanks for the great review

    • Don’t feel bad Alexa. It was just last year when I read my first. I like her relaxing style,

  • I’m glad you loved it! I felt the same way about Parker, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to like her – she seemed too perfect. But I adored her. I find Higgins’ books to be a great little relaxing escape.
