FF 2012 Feature & Follow #104Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place

I am not a huge fan of space and space travel but I kept hearing great things about Across the Universe by Beth Revis.  I went back and forth about if I wanted to spend this kind of money on a hardcover that there was a really good chance that I was not going to like.  Well, I did pick it up and I ended up really liking the story, enough to buy book 2.  I need to learn to take a step outside my normal zone more often, because it seem as though my taste seems to keep expanding.  Maybe I will go back and try the Terry Goodkind that my husband says I really must try.  Intimidating at being like 12 books behind. 🙂

I am going to try to think of another great example of this, I know I have some others so I am hoping that they will come to me at some point today.

Books Mentioned

Across the Universe (Across the Universe Series #1)

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Sword of Truth Boxed Set I: (Books 1-3) Wizard's First Rule/Blood of the Fold/Stone of Tears

First couple of the Terry Goodkind Books in the Sword of Truth Series.

Now what amazing books have you found by stepping outside of your normal reading genres?  Leave me comment please 🙂

  3. I regret writing my answer at 3am now! I could’ve mentioned the one book I loved that I never thought I would, but luckily I have it in my bio!

Senior year in high school I had to read The Count of Monte Cristo, I thought I would hate it like I did all the books I had to read in school thus far, but ended up loving it! And I was far into the paranormal books then–even though they lacked a noticeable presence in the bookstores–and yet, I soooo fell in love with this classic! And to this day I still don’t know why! Unless it was the whole revenge thing! Totally loved that bit even if it took him years to get it all done! Still awesome.

I think that’s a bit weird, but I’ve always been weird! So everyone tells me! 😉

  4. Awesome anwer. Across the Universe is such an amazing book. I just finished reading A Million Suns and it complete topped it. I couldn’t believe it. I love that I spent the money on the hardcover especially because of the map of the ship on the back of the cover. New Linky Follower. =]
