Synopsis

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

My Thoughts

I was really not sure how I was going to feel about this book.  I had read very positive reviews of it and some not so positive reviews.  I knew that I loved the cover.  It just totally spoke to me.  The color is really what drew me in.  My main observation about this book is the world that Ally Condie created is close enough to our world that I understand it on a basic level.  When I stopped and thought about it more, it concerned me that this world that the Society build is so much like a jail or something similar.  The Society controls everything, what you eat, when you eat, your job, your exercise, everything.  Even though, it is accepted there is an underlying sense of fear in the world.  I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait to read more about what is going to happen.  I did feel like the book ended in an odd place, like there should have been a chapter or two more.  I enjoyed the writing style and the characters and their development.

My Rating

4.5 of 5 stars.
